UNSW Canberra's Master of Project Management provides students with the knowledge, skills and tools to successfully deliver new products and services, perform change and transformation, and help project teams get things done. With a strong emphasis on extending skills and knowledge with work experience, this program prepares graduates to apply their high-level understanding to real-world problems within any industry.

  • The Master of Project Management is accredited by the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM). Students benefit from:  

    • the opportunity to become aligned with AIPM, the premier project management industry body  

    • the opportunity to join AIPM as student-level members, giving them access to many membership benefits. You’ll be eligible to apply for associate membership as soon as you receive a formal qualification. 

    • professional development opportunities and certification pathways 

    • automatic certification at Certified Practising Project Practitioner (CPPP) level if they join AIPM as an Associate or Member (note the RegPM assessment fee and competency assessment will be waived) 

    • confidence in the quality of course content and delivery 

    • assurance that the chosen course meets industry standards and reflects current best practice in project management. 

  • Students undertaking the Master of Project Management need to complete 48 Units of Credit (UOC) by completing eight 6-UOC courses from the list in the Handbook entry for the program (see the list in Course availability). 

    In the Master of Project Management, students must complete two compulsory courses, two of the three core courses and four elective courses. Not all elective courses will be available in a particular year. 

    The courses in the program may be taken in any order, but it's recommended that the two compulsory courses are completed first, followed by the two core courses, then the four elective courses. 

    With the approval of the Program Coordinator, students may take up to two elective courses (12 UOC) from other coursework programs. 

  • With the approval of the Program Coordinator, master's students with an average mark of 65% or higher in four courses may complete a research project worth 12 UOC in lieu of two elective courses. 

    The research project can be completed within one semester through enrolment in ZEIT8280 Project - Project Management (full time), or spread across two semesters through enrolment in ZEIT8281 Project - Project Management (part time). Completion of either course results in the achievement of 12 UOC. 

    The project is recommended for those with a strong interest in pursuing original research in a particular area or intending to undertake a higher research degree qualification. Students undertaking the research project (ZEIT8280 or ZEIT8281) are unable to enrol in elective courses from other coursework programs.
