This collection contains letters of three First World War soldiers (Fred Shepherd, George Peddle and Arthur Partridge) from Tasmania who enlisted in 1916. It also includes notes about the collection origin, having been found in a shed in Nabowla, Tasmania by writer James McQueen in 1993

Biographical Note

Frederick Shepherd was born on 20 July 1894 in Nabowla, Tasmania. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 5 April 2016 and was assigned to the 40th Battalion.

George Peddle was born on 4 April 1892 in Launceston, Tasmania. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 4 October 2016 and was assigned to the 40th Battalion.

Arthur Partridge was born in Dorset, Tasmania. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 10 August 1916 at 18 years of age.
