Abstract | Logbook of the HMS Pegasus, 1786-1788. |
Official logbook of the HMS Pegasus while on service in Canada and the West Indies from 21 March 1786 to 12 March 1788.
This volume is of historical significance as the ship was partly captained by Prince William Henry (1765-1837), the future William IV (known as the 'sailor king'), and records a sighting at sea of the young Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The early entries describe the Prince assuming command of the ship due to his royal status.
