Eric Rolls was born to a farming family in Grenfell, New South Wales in 1923. After attending Fort Street High School, he served with the Australian Imperial Force as a signaller in Papua New Guinea and Bougainville. From 1948 until 1986 he farmed in north-west New South Wales as well as writing, often spending time researching at the Mitchell Library in Sydney. As a writer for children and adults, he wrote poetry and prose works on a variety of topics including Australia’s natural history, food and China’s relationship with Australia
