CONGRATULATIONS ALL
To enable researchers to present a paper at the 12th International Symposium on Spatial Data Handling the International Programme Committee announced a scholarship award competition. Six scholarships of $US500 were awarded. Candidate papers must meet the criteria of the review process, but preference will be given to scholars from Africa, Asia, South America or Eastern Europe, especially those in the early stages of their career. Graduate students, post-doctoral students and non-tenured faculty are encouraged to apply. The scholarships are supported by the International Geographical Union and by ESRI.®
The Committee invites submission of full text papers of up to 5000 words. Papers may be in any area of Geographical Information Science – the theory, concepts and principles of geographic information handling. Topics that address the working of, and work with Geographical Information Systems are appropriate, including:
Papers relating to topics which are not mentioned in this list will be especially welcome.
Full papers of 5000 words maximum should be emailed to greg.elmes@mail.wvu.edu on or before 31st December 2005. Papers should be written in English (the official language of the conference) and prepared in accordance with the Instructions for Authors, which can be found with this call and other information at (www.igugis.org or www.gicon2006.at). All papers will be subject to full review by the International Programme Committee, and, if accepted, published in the conference proceedings.

A blind-review by three members of the Scientific Committee will assess papers for inclusion in SDH. All accepted papers that are revised, formatted and delivered by the March 2006 deadline will be published in the conference proceedings by Springer-Verlag.
